Absolute Nonsense!

Posted by Lee on July 4, 2008 12:37 PM

Newcastle United responded quickly and effectively to reports that the club have been in talks to sell to US investors today when a club spokesman simply said the reports were "absolute nonsense."

Ashley's people have suggested in the past he is in this for the long haul and fans woke up to screaming headlines that the club were ready to sell.

Reports say that the discussion between United and InterMedia, which took place via a third party, suggests that Mike Ashley quoted the said wannabe owners a fee of £420million.

Yet all of this has been dismissed by the club.

Will Premier League defences get caught up in Gutierrez's web?

Posted by Lee on July 2, 2008 1:53 PM

Newcastle fans have seen a lot down the years at St James's Park - but perhaps a player donning a Spiderman mask after scoring a goal is something new on most of the Toon Army.

But that's the procedure that fans can expect to see if he does the business when he pulls on a black and white shirt (or purple) from the start of next season and the net bulges.

Mind you by the look of the Argentina international Jonas Gutierrez's tally of five from his time in Spain, he has come to St James's to provide the bullets for Toon strikers more than anything else.

Barton walks free and is ready to regroup with his team-mates

Posted by Lee on July 1, 2008 3:44 PM

Joey Barton walked free today from prison and with a four month suspended sentence and the chances are he could be back in training for day one of pre-season next week.

After a dramatic day Toon fans woke up to the news that Barton had actually been sacked but this proved to be unfounded as the hours ticked by.

In fact it turns out Barton is still employed by United but ready to face crisis talks with Kevin Keegan and new managing director Derek Llambias.

Derdiyok signing would be a shrewd move from King Kev

Posted by Lee on June 29, 2008 1:17 PM

Eren Derdiyok is the latest name that is being linked with Newcastle United then and a quick check on the Swiss international's background suggests if Kevin Keegan can pull the deal off, it could be one of his shrewdest moves yet in the transfer market as Toon boss.

KK of course has gone Swiss before and was on hand to deliver right-back Marc Hottiger in 1994 with the defender proving to be a success at St James's Park.

And Hottiger gave Derdiyok the thumbs up in a Chronicle interview over the weekend with Newcastle reportedly closing in on their first summer buy.

Summer plans offer KK's side a stern test

Posted by Lee on June 25, 2008 6:24 PM

You can never get carried with friendlies but for Newcastle United fans they'll certainly be able to make an accurate measurement of where their side are at after the pre-season programme, which was announced today, is completed next month.

The now almost annual trip to Hartlepool will revive fond memories for Kevin Keegan with Victoria Park (or Victoria Ground as it was then) the scene of Peter Beardsley's second coming with the Toon in 1993.

KK then makes an emotional return to Doncaster for a game at the still sparkling Keepmoat Stadium for game two before the big boys enter the fray.

Milner future should be on Tyneside

Posted by Lee on June 24, 2008 5:51 PM

So then Milner must stay - or at least that seems to be the opinion of large sections of Newcastle United fans and seemingly Kevin Keegan.

Interest from Liverpool and Aston Villa (once again, are they obsessed?) looks set to be resisted for the winger and quite rightly so.

At the end of the day why would you sell one of your better players to two rival teams in the Premier League and at a time when United need as many quality performers as possible?

It's back to business for King Kev

Posted by Lee on June 23, 2008 11:09 AM

It's probably one of the key stages of Newcastle United's summer programme and that is simply the sight of Kevin Keegan back at his desk.

Of course, it's a sight that no Toon fans will see and only staff at the club's Benton HQ will witness but the knowledge that KK is back will be a major thing for many United fans.

Basically, Newcastle fans regard one person and person only as the boss on Tyneside and that's Kevin Keegan, who has an impeccable record in the dugout at St James's Park and even in his second stint in charge demonstrated why he still has the magic.
